From 1 January 2026, all young Victorians aged 17 and under will be able to travel on public transport for free.

To celebrate, the Department of Transport and Planning are running a design competition to create a new Youth myki card and, inviting young Victorians aged 5 to 17 to submit original artwork.

It’s a fantastic opportunity to engage with the community and promote creative participation among Victoria’s youth.

Designs can be hand-drawn or digital, originality is key

On the 23 of June, students from Prep to Grade 6 will take part in Be Kinder Day, a special event dedicated to promoting kindness across our school community. Throughout the day, students will engage in a variety of classroom activities, discussions, and games designed to explore the meaning of kindness and how it can be practiced in everyday life.

Be Kinder Day is about more than just being nice—it’s about encouraging empathy, respect, and compassion. The aim is to empower students to make thoughtful choices, support their peers, and recognise the impact their actions can have on others. Let’s work together to make kindness a way of life!

Join us in supporting Backpack 4 Vic Kids, an Australian organisation that provides essential items to children in crisis, before formal support services are available. Pyjamas are one of the items most in demand.

For a gold coin donation, Primary students can wear their pyjamas to school. All funds raised will go toward purchasing children’s pyjamas for the charity.

Families are also encouraged to donate new, clean, or gently used pyjamas in children’s sizes (newborn to teenager).

As the term unfolds, we continue to celebrate the wonderful contributions of our students and staff, and the strong, positive culture developing across our Secondary School.

Celebrations
Our Cultural Cup has been in full swing, House Leaders have been designing a variety of competitions that cater to student interests, hobbies, and strengths. These activities are a vital part of our goal to create a balanced school environment—one that is both disciplined and joyful. By intentionally setting aside time for fun, we are building a culture in each House that help students to feel “Connected by Love”.

Our Positive Acknowledgement System is also thriving, with staff enthusiastically recognising students who embody our values through effort, attitude, and behaviour. The current House tallies are:

We also want to acknowledge the top three staff who have led the way in issuing positive acknowledgements: Mrs. Cosgrave, Mr. Armstrong, and Mrs. Hema. Thank you for championing student encouragement!

Behaviour Focus
Over the past fortnight, we have focused on ensuring all students wear their blazers to and from school. We are now turning our attention to appropriate footwear. A reminder: students must wear black, polishable lace-up shoes with their academic uniform. Black runners are permitted only with the sports uniform or with a medical exemption (doctor’s/specialist letter required).

In addition, we are reinforcing our expectations around student effort. Working hard is not optional—it is a key part of our Positive Behaviour Support Framework. Students who apply themselves consistently will be acknowledged and celebrated. Those who fail to meet effort expectations will be supported through clear processes and consequences.

The weather might be dark and gloomy, but the Waymaker excursion to Hijinx Hotel was full of colour and life! As part of our Escape Room unit, students are working on personal and social capabilities, working together as a team to solve problems and race against the clock. In preparation for the excursion we examined how to set personal and team goals and how to plan a journey, overcoming any obstacles that may arise along the route.

On our return we reflected on what we had achieved and what could be improved next time. In the coming weeks we will attend LockedIn Escape Rooms in Mornington to challenge ourselves and use the problem-solving skills we have been developing.

Last week, our Junior and Senior Choirs proudly represented the school at the Mornington Peninsula Choral Festival. It was a fantastic evening of music, with students enjoying the opportunity to see performances from other schools and community groups. Our choirs sang beautifully and did our school proud with their confident performances.

Have A Go Night was held last night, and it was wonderful to see such a large number of students taking part. This special evening gave students the chance to perform pieces they’ve been working on in their private instrumental or vocal lessons. For many, it was their first time performing in front of an audience, and they should be very proud of their efforts and courage.

Our Division 1 Girls were outstanding, taking out the grand final win and securing their place in the next stage of the competition. The Division 1 Boys gave it their all and narrowly missed out on winning the grand final, going down by just 3 points in a tightly contested match.

In Division 2 Girls, it was an all-Flinders showdown in the grand final, with Carrum Downs and Tyabb facing off. Both teams played exceptionally well, with Carrum Downs coming out on top in an exciting finish.

Our Division 2 Boys teams showed great determination throughout the competition. The Tyabb team finished 2nd on the ladder in their pool, while the Carrum Downs team fought hard and came away with a win in their finals match, showing impressive teamwork and resilience.

Well done to all players and coaches—your efforts and sportsmanship made us proud!

Students are invited to begin to think about which sport they would like to try out for in term 3. Tryouts are held at lunchtime & students are emailed dates for their relevant sport.

Year 9/10 students may apply to coach Junior (Year 7/8) teams only

Please note: Students cannot coach and play in the same term

Coaches are expected to attend matches and lead lunchtime training sessions

Applications are submitted via the Sports Moodle page & will be reviewed by our Head of Sport, Miss Jackson, in consultation with Heads of House and classroom teachers to ensure applicants reflect the College’s values.

Applications close on Friday, 4th July.
