Australian Interschool Equestrian Championships 2017
17 November 2017
Year 12 student Amy Slocombe competed in numerous interschool equestrian events to qualify to compete for Victoria at the Australian Interschool Equestrian Championships this year.
The Victorian Interschool team was made up of 62 riders on 70 horses. Flinders Christian Community College had additional students who qualified but Amy was the only student able to make the 3600km round trip to take part at this event, which was held in Toowoomba, Queensland.
Amy qualified and competed in the following events: Senior Novice Dressage, Combined Training Secondary 95cm and Eventing CNC1* sections.
The week was very busy with Amy competing every day on her horses. Amy and her horses were not used to the hot weather with it reaching over 30 degrees every day and a very hot and windy 37 on her Cross-Country day. After some trying times in her dressage Amy showed resilience, dedication and determination to place in the next two events.
Amy placed Reserve Champion in Combined Training Secondary 95 and was in the combined training team that placed Reserve Champion on her horse Aroona Park Jester. Amy also placed 5th in the 1* eventing on her horse TP Arnie and was also in the eventing team that placed third overall.
Competing for Victoria has been a fantastic experience and with this being her last year in the Flinders Equestrian Team, a wonderful high to finish off her interschool Equestrian life. The friendships that she has made with students not only from Victoria but from all over Australia, along with the memories, will be lifelong.
