Sport | Flinders Christian Community College

Physical activity is vital to concentration, and the cognitive and emotional well being of children. For this reason we will encourage your child to participate actively in a wide range of sporting activities throughout their school career, from Prep through to Year 12.

Our sports program complements the physical education component of the curriculum. Organised training sessions take place at lunchtimes and before and after school, as teams prepare for the challenge of inter-school competitions.

Competitions

Team sports encourage collaboration, commitment, empathy, grace in winning and losing, and enjoyment.

Each year we hold the following House competitions, which we encourage all students to participate in:

  • Athletics and cross-country for Primary School students
  • Athletics, swimming and cross-country for Secondary School students

We also offer coaching programs in the following sports:

Our teams enter into competitions organised by local sporting associations, and compete regularly with other independent and government schools.

External Sporting Opportunities

Carrum Downs Campus is a member of the Christian Schools Events Network (CSEN) and Southern Independent Schools (SIS). As a member of CSEN, our Primary students take part in annual carnivals for athletics, swimming and cross country, competing against 17 other Christian schools from around Victoria. Our Secondary students compete in the weekly SIS Interschool Sports Program, in cricket, baseball, softball, basketball, netball, soccer, volleyball and Australian Rules football. Students also participate in Inter-school competition days in Rock Climbing, Sailing, Surfing, Lifesaving, Golf, Running and Tennis.

Within our coaching program we are also invited to participate in the Victorian College Basketball Championships and the State Schools Netball Championships. Across Junior, Intermediate and Senior age groups, students are selected to attend preliminary days for these Championships, with a finals day appearance based on their results. Students may be selected from any of our three campuses for these State Championships.

Flinders is also a member of School Sport Victoria (SSV), which gives our students opportunities to attend selections for state teams across a number of different sports.

Meanwhile, through the Christian Schools Association National Championships our students have the opportunity to trial for the Victorian squads for swimming, athletics, soccer, and basketball, heading towards the National Championships held every two years.
