Flinders Christian Community College encourages all students from Grade Prep to Year 12, to participate actively in a wide range of sporting activities, acknowledging the growing body of evidence that positively links physical activity with concentration, cognitive and emotional well-being of students. The sports program complements the Physical Education component of the curriculum. Organised training sessions vary between lunchtimes, before and after school, in preparation for interschool competitions.

All students are encouraged to participate.

Flinders College offers coaching programs in various sporting activities including netball, swimming, basketball, tennis, golf, athletics and chess. Teams are entered in competitions organised by local sporting associations and each year teams compete regularly with other Independent and Government Schools. Team sports encourage collaboration, commitment, empathy, grace in winning and losing, and enjoyment.

Association Membership

As a member of CSSN, Carrum Downs Campus Primary and Secondary carnivals include athletics, swimming and Cross Country competing against 17 other Christian schools from around Victoria. Carrum Downs Primary is also associated with the Frankston District Schools Sports Association through School Sports Victoria (SSV). Through this association, Primary students not only compete on a local level against other local schools, but if they qualify, they can progress through to state competitions. Secondary students also compete in the fortnightly CSSN Interschool Sports Program, in cricket, baseball, softball, basketball, netball, soccer, Australian Rules football and handball, and participate in Interschool Rally Days in volleyball, soccer, Australian Rules football, badminton, table tennis and Super 8’s cricket.

Primary students at Tyabb Campus participate in the Crib Point District School Sports Victoria. Through this, students have the opportunity to represent the school in Interschool Sport and being selected in one of the College Junior School squads.

Within the Coaching Program, Flinders is invited to participate in the Victorian College Basketball Championships and the State Schools Netball Championships. Across Junior, Intermediate and Senior Age Groups, students are selected to attend preliminary days for these Championships with a finals day appearance based on their results. Students may be selected from Carrum Downs, Latrobe City and Tyabb Campuses for these State Championships.

Flinders is a member of School Sport Victoria (SSV) which provides opportunities for students to attend selections for State teams across a number of different sports.

Through the Christian Schools Association National Championships, students have the opportunity to trial for the Victorian squads for swimming, athletics, soccer, and basketball, heading towards the National Championships.
