Thank You!
We are at the end of what has been the longest stretch of (relatively) uninterrupted school time — a 10 week term without lockdown!
When we consider this fact alone, it is not surprising that many of us are very much looking forward to the Easter break! In one way or another, consciously or not, many in our community are tired after the impacts of the last two years battling the Covid monster; uncertainty in work and learning and the effects socially, emotionally and spiritually.
Defeating a monster is incredibly taxing. But it is comforting to be able to draw on the strength of a community, during this season of reintegration.
In his book To Know as We Are Known, great educator Parker Palmer, writes that in the midst of hopelessness, spiritual traditions offer hope that is hard to find elsewhere — for they are concerned with getting us reconnected. They build on the great truth that beneath the broken surface of our lives there remains a hidden wholeness and we are called to that wholeness in the midst of our torn world, reweaving us back into community. Robert Frost’s Two Tramps in Mud Time illustrates the practical need for rediscovering this common unity (ie, community);
But yield who will to their separation,
My object in living is to unite
My avocation and my vocation
As my two eyes make one in sight.
Palmer’s education integrates the wisdom contained within the traditions of biblical literature, as well as philosophy, history, the arts and other things that point to Truth and knowledge of what is good.
Reflecting on Term 1, on behalf of the Flinders staff here at Tyabb I would like to express our thanks and appreciation to students and families for your determination and persistence throughout the term. In spite of the 7-day isolation periods, we have been able to continue learning together and provide a number of extra-curricular activities which we have been unable to do in previous years.
Thank you to our wonderful teachers and support staff for their incredibly faithful and humble efforts this term.
To everyone in our Flinders community, we pray for a wonderful, restful and restorative Easter holiday break!
