Musical Productions at Traralgon

At each Campus, students have the opportunity to audition for parts in the various school musicals. Singing, dancing and acting as well as the technical aspects of the show employ the talents of many. Some of our recent productions have included Grease 2, Beauty and the Beast, Oliver, Camp Rock: The Musical, Seussical the Musical, and Musical Mash-up.

The Traralgon campus performed Musical Mash-up in September 2011. The show combined songs and dances from five much-loved and well-known musicals: Oliver, Mary Poppins, Hairspray, Blues Brothers and Wizard of Oz. So what is a “mash-up”? In the music world it’s when elements from two or more songs are blended together to create a new song. Many – if not all – of the musicals included in our Musical Mash-up would be familiar. But picking out our favourite parts and putting them all together, side by side, made for a unique show.

Traralgon drama teacher Mary Walker wrote and cast the show specifically for the Campus. The most exciting thing about this year’s musical production was that almost everything was sourced from within the school: the props, costumes, sets, music, dance choreography, the venue and even the script. Many parents, teachers and students put in considerable time and effort to produce an outstanding show.
