Hope & Purpose through Christian Education

Traralgon Campus

Principal, Traralgon Campus

Over the past several months, our Board of Governance explored various options for the Traralgon Campus and engaged in a significant amount of research and reflection. Our ultimate goal was to ensure the ongoing provision and viability of Christian education in the Latrobe Valley for many generations to come. The Traralgon Campus is currently a satellite school of our other two campuses in Carrum Downs and Tyabb. With the two-hour distance between Traralgon and the other campuses, we do not have the capacity to fully leverage from each other as the distance is just too great. Traralgon is therefore isolated from our collective resources.

We have found a suitable fit for our Traralgon Campus within Chairo Christian School, and will therefore transition our Traralgon Campus to Chairo. From the start of 2018, the campus will be owned and operated by Chairo, although the change will actually commence in 2017 with Year 11 being offered at Drouin rather than Traralgon.

Our goal is to bring hope and purpose to all the children in our care. We are especially proud of our students’ reputation for integrity, humility and grace in all aspects of their life: sportsmanship, community service, teamwork, and academic pursuits.

We offer a kind, nurturing environment where your child will receive close pastoral attention and be fully valued for their uniqueness and individuality. We want to inspire them to love learning, to build their self-confidence, and to equip them to grow through persistence and determination.

As a student at our Traralgon campus your child will have many opportunities to participate in camps and sporting programs, and to engage in student leadership. Our small class sizes enable our teachers to give your child individual attention and guide them to achieve their very best.

Through our academic, cultural and sporting programs we will help your child develop a sense of belonging and community. And whether your child chooses to go on to University or to follow a vocational path, we will fully support and prepare them at every stage of their journey.

We look forward to partnering with you as your child unlocks their skills and discovers their purpose.

Why Chairo Christian School?

Chairo Christian School was identified as the preferred school to operate the Traralgon Campus because of Chairo’s commitment to the cause of Christian education and its focus on teaching from a Christian worldview perspective. Chairo also has a proven capacity to deliver quality education for students from Kindergarten through to Year 12, including an established VCE program that delivers a wide range of subjects and achieves excellent academic outcomes.

With campuses at Drouin, Drouin East, Leongatha and Pakenham, and total enrolments of close to 1,500 students, Chairo is well-placed in the region to integrate the Traralgon Campus into its community. Having started at Drouin East in 1983 and subsequently developed the Drouin and then Pakenham campuses, Chairo also has recent experience in successfully adding an established campus, with South Coast Christian College choosing to become Chairo’s Leongatha Campus in 2014.

Flinders and Chairo have much in common, including a commitment to encourage, challenge and inspire students to learn, develop in character, and understand the world in which they live. Both schools are independent, coeducational, interdenominational Christian schools.

As with the Flinders Campus, the Chairo campuses are known for their kind, nurturing environment where students are valued for their uniqueness and individuality. Both schools seek to bring hope and purpose to all students, and to equip them to make a positive difference in the world.

The board is confident that Chairo is fully committed to maintaining and further developing a vibrant and distinctly Christian education throughout the Latrobe Valley and surrounding areas, as well as in West Gippsland, South Gippsland and the outer south eastern metropolitan area.

What year levels will continue at Traralgon?

For 2017 we’ll offer at the Traralgon Campus Kinder – Year 10 and Year 12. From the start of 2018, the Traralgon Campus will cater for students from Kinder to Year 8, with students in Years 9 to 12 having the opportunity to complete their secondary schooling at Chairo’s Drouin Campus.

Is there a Chairo Bussing service from Traralgon to Drouin?

Yes, there is a Chairo bussing service. The bus trip from Traralgon to Drouin is a comfortable one, which many students have chosen over the years in order to attend Chairo’s Drouin Campus, and continue to do so.
