Debating and public speaking offers students important argumentative and persuasion skills, and teaches them how to be an effective speaker, using language in a fluent and clear manner to be understood by an audience. It enables students to meet new people, make new friends and become part of a vibrant and inclusive community.

Flinders Christian Community College students have the opportunity to participate in both debating and public speaking competitions. Our junior and senior teams have been very successful throughout the two main debating competitions, the Debating Association of Victoria in the Mt Eliza region and the Southern Independent Schools Debating Competition.

At the Tyabb Campus, teams from the secondary College mentor and work with the primary school students to enhance their debating skills. Team members give the primary school students advice and help in how to conduct a debate and how to improve their arguments.
