2014 VCE Scholarships – Latrobe City

Academic and All-Rounder Scholarships providing a discount on school tuition fees may be offered to new and existing students commencing Year 11 in 2014. All potential scholarship recipients are required to complete an application form as well as attend an interview with a panel comprised of school staff and a board member.

Showcase Concert

Students from Latrobe City and Carrum Downs will present a Showcase Concert on Tuesday 25 June 2013 at 7:00pm in the Gymnasium. All students in attendance at the Music Retreat on Monday 24 June and Tuesday 25 June 2013 will perform in the Concert.

This event is entry by gold coin. No seat numbers will be assigned – be early to choose your seat on the night.  We strongly encourage all parents, families and friends to attend this wonderful event.

Stratford Equestrian Interschool Challenge

On Wednesday 22 May, four of our Latrobe City Campus students competed in the Interschool Challenge held at ‘The Knob’ Reserve in Stratford.  Karae from Year 6, Jorja from Year 5, Bailey from Year 2, and Sophie from Year 1 proudly represented Flinders College at this event.  The Interschool Challenge is an Equestrian competition where teams of four take part in various challenges from Prep to Year 12.

A Good Samaritan in our midst

Just before 8am on Thursday 6th June, I was traveling through the busy intersection of Princes Hwy and Breed Street on my way to Melbourne for a course. Whilst changing gears going up the hill with traffic either side, my clutch went to the floor with no ability to accelerate. I managed to just make it to the right turning lane; the turn off for Mabel Street.

Still stuck in the middle of the highway, waiting for help to arrive, I saw Thomas from Year 12 walking across the highway coming towards me.

Red Nose day

Red Nose Day is Friday 28 June. Primary SRC representatives will be selling items in support of research into Sudden Infant Death Syndrome in the final week of Term 2. Items for sale include: red nose $2.00, wristband $3.00, lip balm and hand sanitiser $4.00, keyring and pen $5.00 and soft toy $6.00. There are also tax deductable pins for $5.00, $10.00 and $20.00.

Missing uniform items

Could all parents please check their child’s uniform for names as we are missing quite a few items.

Independent Schools Annual Art Exhibition

This year’s Independent Schools Annual Art Exhibition includes no less than 19 Flinders Latrobe Secondary student’s work on display.  This is a highly esteemed event that will be opened by the Assistant Director of the National Gallery of Victoria.

Each exhibiting student has been personally invited to attend the opening night on Tuesday 30 July at Shell House in Spring Street, Melbourne and we are looking forward to seeing our brilliant students acknowledged for their fine efforts and creativity.

EMA – Period 2

Application forms for the Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA) for Period 2 (P2) must be received at the Business Office by Friday 2 August, 2013. If you have already applied for EMA you are not required to submit a new form for P2 unless details have changed.

GIS Cultural Festival

Congratulations to our students from Year 7, 8 and 10 who participated in Debating, Theatre Sports and Photography at the GIS Cultural Festival held at Marist Sion College in Warragul on Monday 20 May. Well done to Natalie and Kimberley in Year 8 who came first in Junior Photography.

Flinders Voice

We have had great student participation and an enthusiastic response to The Voice auditions that were held this week. Coaches have selected their teams and the Battle Rounds will commence in the coming week beginning Monday 3 June. The Grand Final of ‘The Voice’ is open to all friends and family to come and watch and support the students and will be held on Thursday 20 June at 6:30 in the Gymnasium.

Student Art Exhibition

Flinders Primary Art students have been selected to exhibit some of their beautiful Monet inspired artworks at the Latrobe Performing Art Gallery from Tuesday 4 June to Friday 5 July (please see Gallery for opening times).

If your work has been selected, you will receive an invitation shortly for you and your family to attend the opening afternoon on the 4 June, all parents and community members are welcome.
