Premier’s Reading Challenge – Carrum Downs
Over 515 books have now been read for the Premier’s Reading Challenge. Well done to those students who have read these books!
Flinders Basketball – Carrum Downs
Flinders entered a combined Year 7 and 8 boy’s team in the Saturday morning Dandenong Domestic Competition. This provided our Flinders boys with some tough games against some new teams they hadn’t played before.
2013 Scholastic Book Fair – Carrum Downs
This year’s Book Fair will be held next week in the Learning Resource Centre. The Book Fair will be open Tuesday to Thursday from 8.30 am until 4 pm with a parade being held on Tuesday in the gym.

Australian Maths Competition
This competition, occurring on Thursday August 1st is open to interested students. Permission forms have been handed out in class and are available from Mr Alley. They must be returned by Thursday May 17th.
The Fitness Club – Carrum Downs
The Fitness Club continues to be available to any Year 5-12 students who would like to walk or run at a leisurely pace on Wednesday and/or Friday afternoon after school.

VCE Expo 2013 and VCE Subject Selection for 2014
The College VCE Expo will take place on the evening of Thursday 6th June.
It is important that all Year 10 students and their parents make every effort to attend this event.
Theatresports Student Report – Carrum Downs
On the 7th of May both the Senior and Junior Flinders Theatresports teams, competed in the Theatresports Heat at Heatherton Christian College. . There were four Junior teams and three Senior teams from three other schools (Waverley CC, Hillcrest CC and Belgrave Heights CC) . Each team had to compete for two positions in the grand final.

VCE Subject Selection for 2014
As a College, we are now beginning the process of designing the curriculum and the timetable to be offered in 2014. An important starting point in this process is establishing the “blocks” of VCE subjects we will be offering.
School Photos Wednesday 22nd May – Carrum Downs
Wednesday 22nd May is Photo Day for all students Prep to Year 12 at Carrum Downs campus.
Order forms will be going home with students next week. Parents are given the option to order online using the unique code provided on the form or complete the order form and bring back to school on the day of the photos.
NAPLAN – Carrum Downs
The National Assessment Program Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) is an annual assessment of students in Year 3, 5, 7 and 9. On Tuesday 14, Wednesday 15 and Thursday 16 May, students will undertake the 2013 NAPLAN.
Exo Day – Carrum Downs
Exo Day 2013 will take place on Friday, 10th May and is brought to you by Unit 1 Business Management students.
Year 3 – 7 students will be involved from 10.30 a.m. until the end of lunch (1.30 p.m.) while Year 8 – 10 students will be involved from 12.45 p.m. – 3.15 p.m.

Year 9 English News – Carrum Downs
Each group of students created a visual adaptation of the movie Cast Away and had to explain how it represented the themes from the story of Chuck’s survival and rescue.

Grandparents Day – Carrum Downs
The Junior School welcomed around 400 grandparents last week as we celebrated our annual Grandparents Day. Mr Pearce spoke about what his Grandad meant to him, Grade 1 sang the National Grandparents Day song, Grade 4S performed ‘This Little Light of Mine’.
Anzac Day 2013 – Carrum Downs
Some Year 9 leaders represented the school at the local Anzac service at the Seaford RSL along with Mrs Cole and Mr Toovey.
Cans for Life – Carrum Downs
We are helping City Life, a local charity, by collecting tinned food for their food bank. Bring a can to school and make a difference in someone’s life!
2013 Reading Challenge – Carrum Downs
The Reading Challenge is well under way. Over 160 students have registered and over 300 books have already been read. This is a fantastic effort! The goal is to read 1500 books by the time the Reading Challenge finishes in September.

Write a Book in a Day – Carrum Downs
Last week five Year 9 girls undertook the challenge to write a book in a day. Coordinated by the Katherine Susannah Prichard Writers Centre in Western Australia, the team had to plan, write, illustrate, print and bind a complete children’s novel of at least 4000 words within 12 hours.
